Beer-o-Mat
In this section I want to publish all the nice (and not nice of course) beers I tasted so far. Of course this list doesn’t represent all the beers I actually drank in my short beer life. But of course this list will be extended in the course of time. I’ll try to write a short review of the beer.

Review: Very different beer in taste. This beer is stored in oak barrels to give it it’s unique taste. It has a full, nuttily taste.

Name: Astra
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 4.9%
Brewery: Bavaria-St.Pauli GmbH Hamburg
Country: Germany

Review: Strong pilsener from Hamburg. Got smokey features and it’s not easy to drink. After a few beers you’re gonna like it. Then it tastes quite good.

Name: Baisinger Keller Teufel
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 4.8%

Name: Barbar Bock
Type: Bock
Alcohol: 2.5%
Brewery: Lefebvre Brewery
Country: Belgium
Region: Belgum
Review: It’s a different taste than normal Bock beer as it is laced with honey. They say it’s one of the oldes ingredient for beer.

Name: Beck’s
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 4.9%
Brewery: InBev Deutschland Vertriebs GmbH & Co KG Bremen
Country: Germany
Region: north, whole Germany, whole World
Review: Really popular pilsener. The beer is easy to drink not that bitter. Beck’s is a nice summer beer when you did some sports or want to relax on a sunny evening (I drink it the whole year though).

Name: Beck’s Green Lemon
Type: Beer Mix
Alcohol: 2.5%
Brewery: InBev Deutschland Vertriebs GmbH & Co KG Bremen
Country: Germany
Region: north, whole Germany, whole World
Review: This beer is a typical girl beer (sorry
) It’s flavored beer so you taste only the fruit juice and not the beer. If you need to drive and Coke is not your favorite pick taste this. But be careful it sill contains 2.5%.

Name: Brand Dubbelbock
Type: Bock

Name: Budweiser Lager
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 5.0%
Brewery: Budweiser Budvar Budweis
Country: Czech Republic

Review: Popular lager. This is of course the real deal from the Czech Republic and not the cheap fake from the US. Soft pilsener, good to drink for every occasion.

Name: DOGtoberfest Märzen
Type: Bock
Alcohol: 5.2%
Brewery: Flying Dog Brewery
Country: USA
Region: USA
Review: Some German folks started to brew Märzen in the US. This beer is more for US citizens and Germans who lived more than a few years without real beer. For my taste this beer is too soft to be called a Märzen. The color is good though.

Name: Füchschen Alt
Type: Altbier
Alcohol: 4.5%
Brewery: Brauerei im Füchschen Düsseldorf
Country: Germany
Region: Rheinland (Düsseldorf)
Review: Strong Altbier from a private brewery in Düsseldorf. Almost only in Düsseldorf to buy. The beer itself has a strong character and if you come from the pilsener world or wheat beer is your favourite you’ll have to get used to this taste. Nevertheless a very nice beer.

Name: Gold Ochsen Original
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 4.9%
Brewery: Gold Ochsen Brauerei Ulm
Country: Deutschland
Region: south of Germany
Review: One of the cheaper German beers available in Switzerland bottled. Itself a very good alternative to all common Feldschlösschen, as it is more aromatic in taste.

Name: Hertog Jan Bockbier
Type: Bock
Alcohol: 6.5%
Brewery: Hertog Jan Brouwerij
Country: Netherlands

Review: A dutch approach of a Bock. The best Bock I drank in the Netherlands so far but no chance against the Andechser Doppelbock Dunkel.

Name: Holger Bier
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 5.0%
Brewery: Brouwerij Bocholt
Country: Netherlands (?)
Region: Netherlands
Review: This beer is sold by Jumbo in the Netherlands and categorized as Cat. II. Compared to the other beers its cheap and the taste is rather simple than the others. A good beer if you have a lot of people around but not if you want to drink a nice beer.

Name: Hürlimann
Type: Lager

Name: Kuchlbauer Alte Liebe
Type: Wheat Beer
Alcohol: 5.2%
Brewery: Brauerei zum Kuchlbauer GmbH und Co KG, Abensberg
Country: Germany
Region: south, limited available
Review: This wheat beer is simply the best wheat beer there is. It has a strong malty taste and if you’re switching from other beers you might experience some sort of smoky taste. Delicious beer!

Name: La Trappe Dubbel
Type: Trappist
Alcohol: 7.0%
Brewery: Bierbrouwereij De Koninghoeven
Country: Netherlands

Review: A dark red beer. In my opinion it has a barrique taste but that can be my imagination as this beer is not stored in wooden crates. All in all a good beer for a nice evening.

Name: Tannenzäpfle
Type: Pilsener
Alcohol: 5.1%
Brewery: Badische Staatsbrauerei Rothaus AG
Country: Germany

Review: It’s a good herb pilsener with a nice note of hop. The Tannenzäpfle became a quite popular beer very recently and spread from the south to the north across Germany. At good parties this beer is a must have today.

Name: Schwaben Bräu – Das Echte Märzen
Type: Märzen
Alcohol: 5.5%
Brewery: Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH & Co. KG
Country: Germany
Region: south, Stuttgart area
Review: Strong and tastefull Märzen. Optimal with a hearty dish or for a cinema/tv evening with salty chips. One of my current favorites.

Name: Schwaben Bräu – Das Schwarze
Type: Schwarzbier
Alcohol: 4.9%
Brewery: Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH & Co. KG
Country: Germany
Region: south, Stuttgart area
Review: Typical for Schwarzbier it has a uncommon taste which can not be compared to your standard pilsener. Although it is not so strong from an alcohol percentage point of view it has a strong flavor. This is certainly not everyone’s taste but if you like Schwarzbier you should try it.

Name: Wasseralfinger Spezial
Type: Export/Spezial
Alcohol: 5.2%
Brewery: Wasseralfinger Löwenbrauerei Aalen-Wasseralfingen
Country: Deutschland
Region: south of Germany
Review: A colleague of mine was quite fascinated, when I told him about my Beer-o-Mat section on my blog, sou he brought me two local beers. Today I came around testing the “Spezial”.
On the first sip it was quite surprising as this beer has a strong aromatic taste. A lot of malt comes through. Even though it only has 5.2% it is quite a strong beer.

Name: Weihenstephaner Vitus
Type: Wheat Beer / Bock
Alcohol: 7.7%
Brewery: Bayrische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan
Country: Germany
Region: south, whole Germany (picture was taken in Holland)
Review: This beer is actually one of my new favorites. It’s a combination of a good old fashioned Wheat Beer with the strength of a Bock. It’s good to drink in the summer but as it is a Bock you only get it in the autumn. Perfect beer!
